Measure For Measure

Once again, the plays of William Shakespeare give us insight and commentary on events in our own culture. Join the CSI Theater Department as we explore the roles of gender in our culture, and how they relate to mercy, hypocrisy, and the abuse of power. The city of Venice is one overrun by brothels and a loose set of morals. The Duke, unwilling to use his authority to institute change departs, leaving Angelo in charge. Angelo, initially reluctant, soon starts to reinstate older, harsher laws to force morality on the city and close the brothels. The changes highlight the hypocrisy of the ruling elite, and the temptation to abuse power.
