Vice President of Operations
Summary: The Vice President of Operations oversees all warehouse, transportation, logistics, and facility operations across all branches. This role leads warehouse and driver personnel and directly manages the Director of Logistics and Director of Warehouse.
The Vice President of Operations is responsible for daily operational execution including labor and route scheduling and optimization, fleet and facility maintenance, and the effective use of space, equipment, and manpower. Core responsibilities include staffing, budgeting, employee development, and the implementation of security, and warehouse and driver safety.
This is a hands-on leadership role focused on operational excellence, route optimization, cost control, and service reliability. The Vice President of Operations evaluates and improves routing, delivery schedules, and warehouse processes to support next-day delivery expectations while ensuring compliance and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership & Strategy
- Provide leadership and direction for all warehouse, logistics, fleet, and facility operations across multiple branches.
- Partner with the President to align operational strategy with company goals and growth plans.
- Evaluate and improve operational processes with a focus on efficiency, scalability, and service consistency.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives that improve productivity, reduce costs, and enhance customer experience.
Warehouse & Distribution Operations
- Oversee receiving, storage, order fulfillment, picking, packing, and shipping operations.
- Ensure customer orders are picked accurately and delivered on time, meeting delivery commitments.
- Optimize warehouse layout, space utilization, equipment usage, and labor planning.
- Develop and implement efficient receiving, inventory control, and order fulfillment processes.
Transportation, Fleet & Routing
- Oversee route planning, scheduling, and execution for box trucks and semi-trucks.
- Evaluate and redesign delivery routes to improve efficiency, reduce miles, improve on-time performance, and control costs.
- Ensure proper utilization, cleanliness, and preventive maintenance of all fleet and material handling equipment.
- Maintain accurate records for route schedules, driver logs, vehicle inspections, and fleet compliance.
Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure full compliance with DOT, IFTA, FMCSA, OSHA, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Develop, implement, and enforce safety, sanitation, and security programs across all operations.
- Lead safety training and ongoing education for warehouse and driver personnel.
- Ensure timely reporting and response to work-related injuries, incidents, and near-misses.
- Prepare for and manage audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews.
Leadership & People Management
- Directly manage the Director of Logistics and Director of Warehouse.
- Provide coaching, accountability, and development to operational leaders and supervisors.
- Support hiring, training, performance management, and employee development initiatives.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.
Financial & Performance Management
- Develop and manage operational budgets, including labor, fleet, maintenance, and facilities.
- Monitor KPIs related to service levels, safety, productivity, routing efficiency, and cost control.
- Identify opportunities to improve margins through operational efficiencies and process improvements.
- Make data-driven recommendations regarding capital investments, equipment purchases, and process changes.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field preferred.
- Class A CDL with Hazmat Endorsement
- 5+ years of operations leadership experience, preferably in distribution, logistics, or transportation.
- Strong working knowledge of:
- DOT and FMCSA regulations
- OSHA safety standards
- Fleet management and routing
- Warehouse and distribution operations
- Continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, or similar)

- Proven ability to lead multi-site operations in a hands-on, operational environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in logistics and route optimization.
- Effective communicator able to lead frontline teams and senior leadership.
- Practical, solutions-oriented leadership style aligned with a blue-collar, service-driven culture.
- High level of integrity, accountability, and professionalism.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook; experience with ERP, WMS, ELD, and routing systems preferred.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Regular presence in warehouse and transportation environments.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Moderate noise levels typical of warehouse and fleet operations.
